All basement support columns are manufactured to be installed vertically plumb with either end up and on a footing capable of carrying the imposed load. The compressive strength and allowable safe loads are not affected whether the adjustable screw unit is installed on the top or bottom of the column or whether or not it is encased in concrete after installation is complete.
These support columns are intended ONLY for vertical compression loads. They have not been evaluated for lateral or tension loading.
The Standard-Duty (S.D.) models are fabricated from 11 gage (.120″) welded carbon and alloy steel mechanical tubing produced in accordance with ASTM A 513. The S.D. models are available in diameters of 3″, 3-1/2″ and 4″ with lengths of 8″ to 168″ (14 feet). The Jack Screw diameter is 1-1/4″.
The Heavy-Duty (H.D.) models are fabricated from schedule 40 (.216″) steel pipe produced in accordance with ASTM A 500 Grade B or better (structural). The H.D. models are available in diameters of 3″ S-40 pipe (3.5″ O.D.) wall thickness is (.216″), 3-1/2″ S-40 pipe (4″ O.D.) wall thickness (.226″) with lengths of 8″ to 168″ (14 feet). The Jack Screw diameter is 1-1/4″.
The Standard-Duty and Heavy-Duty Adjustable (Qwik-Adjust) steel support columns are fabricated with an adjustable screw unit welded to one end of the tube or pipe and a steel plate welded to the other.
The Standard-Duty, Extreme-Duty, Heavy-Duty and Fixed (Qwik-Post) columns are fabricated with a steel plate welded to each end of a steel tube or pipe. The style, size and shape of the base plate and cap plate may vary depending on customer requirements.
The Extreme Duty (E.D.) models are fabricated from schedule 40 pipe steel pipe produced in accordance with ASTM A 500 Grade B or better (structural). The E.D. models are available in diameters of 3-1/2″ (3.5″ O.D.) wall thickness (.216″) and 4″ (4″ O.D.) wall thickness (.226″) with lengths of 8″ to 168″ (14 feet). The Jack Screw diameter is 1-1/2″.
The Adjustable Screw Unit Assembly includes a screw collar (nut), a screw stud (bolt) and an attached swivel plate. The screw collar and stud are machined from SAE 1215 steel. The screw thread size is 1-1/4″ – 7 on the Standard Duty (S.D.) and Heavy Duty (H.D.) models and is 1-1/2″ – 6 on the Extreme Duty (E.D.) models. The screw has a maximum adjustment of 4″ and a built-in safety stop to prevent over adjusting.
The Cap Plate and/or Base Plate may vary in style, size, shape and thickness. These variables may be controlled by local codes, code officials, methods of attachment to a load carrying member or footing pad or individual customer requirements. Therefore, the base plate and cap plate sizing, method of attachment and all anchoring fasteners are the responsibility of the purchaser and installer of these products.
